  • A delegation from the Association of Friends of the Public School in Al-Matn, represented by Ms. Julie Al-Rayyes and Professor George Haddad, participated in a cultural day at Al-Muhaidtha Al-Rasmia Intermediate School. It was a day rich in students’ presentations and presenting of active teaching methods through models and programs presented by the “Kitabi” and artistic project for the first and second stages, and research for the learners of literary, poetic and geographical tourism for the intermediate stage.
    Two teachers were honored for their retirement at the end of this academic year. There was an atmosphere of familiarity, love, cooperation and appreciation in the presence of the active Parents Council President, Mr. Pierre Haddad, and members of the council. He is an advisor to the Minister of Information and a producer and director in Lebanon TV. He showed all cooperation and coordination with our association and took a speech from Mrs. Julie, the chief accountant of the association and Mr. George Haddad, the representative of the association to the government.

Apple boxes and 3 types of cleaning materials will also be distributed to all technical, high school and public schools in the Metn. All of these donations are thanks to our Lebanese expatriate friends and residents in Lebanon who donated an amount of money, each according to his ability, to be our support at this stage and to participate with us in drawing Laughter on the faces of our students and to sow hope and joy in the eyes of our children.

  • The president and members of the Friends of the Public School Association in Al-Matn participated in a morning gathering organized by the Parents’ Council at the Beit Shabab Public High School in cooperation with the Principal of the Secondary School, Youssef Bou Antoun, and the administrative and educational staff, with the aim of securing the value of the cost of the heating system on the upper floor to warm the students there.
  • The Friends of the Public School Association in Al-Matn organized a meeting that brought together principals of public schools and high schools and parents’ committees from the middle sector to the mountain sector. They numbered 19 schools and secondary schools, where three coordination committees were formed for the parents’ councils. Cooperation and coordination will take place between them to support their school. We also discussed some environmental and sports projects that we will achieve with our schools and secondary schools in Metn soon.
  • The Association of Friends of the Public School in Al-Matn participated in a scientific symposium entitled “The Public School: Its Reality, Protection and Development” at the Research and Studies Center in the Lecture Hall of the “Takatol Lebnan Al Awi”.
    Lecturers: Dr. Therese Al Hashem, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the Lebanese University, Dr. Nada Owaijan, Head of the Educational Center for Research and Development, and Mr. George Haddad, former Director of Primary and Intermediate Education at the Ministry of Education.
  • Under the care and attendance of the Friends of the Public School Association in Al-Matn, the head and members of the parents’ council in the Sufaili Public School organized a Subhia in Hemlaya to support their school and support the administration and meet all the needs and required activities.
  • Yesterday, the Union of Parents’ Committees of Al-Matn Public Schools and Secondaries completed the second phase of this project, which was sponsored by the Friends of the Public School Association in cooperation and coordination with the Ministry of Education and principals of schools and secondary schools, with a meeting that brought them together in the hall of Jal El Dib School, in the presence of the Head of Guidance and Guidance in the Ministry, Mrs. Hilda Khoury. Three regional coordination commissions were formed for the Matn Coast sector, bringing their number with the Middle Matn and Mountain sectors to six.
  • His Beatitude Patriarch Al-Rahi was handed over a copy of the recommendations of the first educational conference of the Association of Friends of the Public School in Al-Matn, which was held on December 8, 2018, with the participation of the representatives of Al-Matn and staff of the Ministry of Education.
    He also received a film about the conference and about the deputies’ visit to public schools with us, and a film about honoring the top students in Al-Matn, and we informed him of the start of implementing the recommendations, including holding a mini-marathon for students of public, technical and secondary schools on May 5 with Representative Elias Hanakash, and the proceeds will go to renovating playgrounds and purchasing sports equipment for schools.
  • For the first time, the Mini Marathon – Al-Matn was held with His Excellency Representative Elias Hanakash, where 1,100 students from public schools in Al-Matn participated in the presence of His Excellency Representative Eddy Maalouf, in the vicinity of the municipality of Al-Jdeideh.
  • A celebration of the Divine Liturgy, which was presided over by His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi, during which the principals of schools and secondary schools in Al-Matn were honored.
  • Honoring the top students of the public schools at the Al-Jdeideh Municipality Theatre.
  • The visit of His Excellency the President of the Republic, General Michel Aoun, where we informed him about the first educational conference that we will hold in the presence of MPs and educational officials in the Ministry of Education. He expressed his full support for the activities of the association and stressed the need to support all public schools in Lebanon and stressed the importance of the role of representatives in paying attention to public schools. After the speech of the President of the Association, Mrs. Raghida Kawerkian Yachouhi, we presented him with an honorary shield.
  • The association held the first educational conference under the title “The Public School… Toward the Better” in the presence of the MPs of Al-Matn, and they are: MP Agop Bakradounian, MP Sami Gemayel, MP Elias Bou Saab, MP Edgar Maalouf, MP Elias Hanakash, MP Eddy Abi Lamaa, MP Edgar Traboulsi.
    Also present were educational officials at the Ministry of Education, who are: Professor Fadi Yarak, Miss Salam Younes, Professor George Haddad, Professor Antoine Jebara, Professor Roger Al-Rai, and Dr. Samar Al-Ahmadiyya.
    This conference was followed by a general and educational discussion and recommendations for public schools. The association committed itself to achieving and following up with those concerned at all levels. The deputies promised financial and moral support to the association to achieve its goals, especially in terms of securing the urgent needs of public schools in the northern Metn.
  • May 12, a meeting with Mr. Mazen Qubaisi at the Ministry of Education, where a number of sports aids were obtained and distributed to 15 public schools.
  • September 16, honoring the top 18 students in Al-Matn, at the Al-Jdeideh Municipality Theatre. Valuable gifts and financial prizes were distributed.
  • Holding a course on the dangers of using social networking sites on the Internet, in which 164 teachers and 41 schools from the northern Matn district and 8 schools from the southern Matn district participated.
  • February 26, the meeting with school principals and parents’ committees in Al-Jdeideh municipality hall entitled “Maan Nabni” and included 25 schools from the coast and central Al-Metn, in the presence of Mrs. Vera Zeitouni and Professor George Haddad
  • The president of the association, Mrs. Raghida Kawerkian Yachouhi, with some members, held media interviews on a number of television stations, including TELELIBAN- MARIAM TV- MTV- OTV- MBC ORBIT- TELE LUMIERE- NOUR SAT, Radio Lebanon and Oyoun Beirut, during which they explained about the association and its role and the projects they have achieved.
  • November 29, annual dinner at Burj Al-Hamam Restaurant in Broumana, sponsored and attended by the Minister of Education Elias Bou Saab, where each of the donors to the schools was honored with a special shield from the association in appreciation of their donations. They are gentlemen: George Abboud, Jean Abou Jaoude, Kamal Al-Qaei, Sarkis Sarkis and His Excellency Minister Elias Bou Saab.
  • A seminar with Mr. George Haddad, the former Basic Education Director, at the Rahbani Theater in Antelias, under the title “The Public School… Hope Hopeful”.
  • Holding an educational activity, which is a competition on the writer Gibran Khalil Gibran in Zalka High School.
  • November 29, the first dinner organized by the association in Burj Al-Hamam Restaurant, in the presence of His Beatitude Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi, Minister of Education Elias Bou Saab, officials from the Ministry of Education, seven bishops, heads of municipalities, mayors, principals of schools, educational staff, mayors and al-metn activists.
    In it, Minister Elias Bou Saab, Messrs. Kamal Al-Qaei, and Jean Abou Jaoude each gave 25 million Lebanese pounds as a contribution to support the association. Mr. George Abboud also presented, in stages, approximately 16 million Lebanese pounds.
  • The association distributed 200 ceiling fans, donated by Messrs. George Abboud and Jean Abu Jaoude, to public schools, according to their needs.
  • Mr. Sarkis Sarkis provided electrical supplies worth 25 million Lebanese pounds, which were distributed to public schools.
  • After the financial support it received, the Association began to develop a plan in preparation for the campaign of restoration and repair of the most urgent infrastructure, and this campaign included a large part of the public schools. It also distributed logistical needs such as: ceiling fans, white boards, printers, cameras, heaters, desks and curtains, LCD, DVD, TV, worth more than one hundred million pounds. All of these donations are documented by the association.
  • December 19, the association received a donation from the Bank of Beirut, which included a set of desks, chairs, and administrative supplies, and distributed them to the schools of Bourj Hammoud, Baouchriye, Sin El Fil, Dahr El Jamal, Mazraat Yachoua, and others.
